Biography
Alex Piquero, Ashbel Smith Professor of Criminology at the University of Texas at Dallas, is an expert in criminal behavior, crime prevention and criminal careers.
Piquero served as an executive counselor with the American Society of Criminology (ASC) and a member of organizations including the National Academy of Sciences, the Racial Democracy and the MacArthur Foundation’s Research Network on Adolescent Development and Juvenile Justice. He received numerous awards including ASC’s Young Scholar and E-Mail Mentor of the Year and top teaching awards from the University of Texas and University of Maryland.
Piquero has published more than 300 peer-reviewed articles and collaborated on several books, including Key Issues in Criminal Careers Research: New Analyses from the Cambridge Study in Delinquent Development, Handbook of Quantitative Criminology and Offending from Childhood to Late Middle Age.
He earned his Ph.D., M.A. and B.A. in criminology and criminal justice from the University of Maryland.
