This study examines the Cincinnati Initiative to Reduce Violence (CIRV), a focused deterrence violence reduction strategy that took place in Cincinnati, Ohio. CIRV used enhanced social services and organizational structures to address the sustainability challenges that influence long-term success. The authors found that group and gang-member involved homicides and violence firearm incidents significantly declined both 24- and 42- months after the implementation of the CIRV. However, additional analyses revealed that provision of social services was not responsible for the significant and sustained decline.
